A lot of people had showered Dr Kaunda, the first President of Republican Zambia, with birthday presents while celebrating his birthday at his home in Lusaka on Tuesday.
KK came out from his closet jogging when Dr. Rajan Mahtani, the chairman of Mahtani Group of Companies, walked from behind in the lounge where some selected guests, John Mambo the bishop, a few journalists and people from Mahtani Group of Companies, were all waiting to wish him.
The former President was first attended by Mohni, the mother of Dr. Rajan Mahtani. Mohini also turned ninety years old this month. She had specially flown from the UK to attend this birthday party. The old lady was invited in the birthday party to cut the cake with Dr Kaunda. The cake was beautifully designed and decorated. It was completely personalized with Dr Kaunda’s photo imprinted on it and was decorated with colours of Zambia’s national flag.
When Dr. Kaunda and Mohini cut the cake, the guests who attended the party gave a standing applause appreciating the moment. He said, “Ma'am, thank you for giving us the young man (Dr Mahtani), he is a gift to us. You are 90, older than I am. You're a wonderful girl... you have given me a piece of cake at 90, you are 90 also, what a record, beautiful young lady.”
The man while celebrating his birthday didn’t forget his wife, who demised last year. He told everyone that he would have loved to celebrate his 90th birthday with the presence of his wife. He said, “She (Mama Betty) is not here, only her pictures are here. You do not know what this means to me. She did a lot in contributing to what I am in life.”
He even chanted the phrase , ‘One Zambia, One Nation’ and told the Zambians to maintain unity in the country. He said that over seventy-three Zambian tribes got united because the Almighty directed him to preach the people regarding the ways to love one another through One Zambia One Nation, which he taught throughout his twenty-seven years of Presidentship.
After KK (Dr Kenneth Kaunda) had a seat, Rajan Mahtani thanked him for what he has done for Zambia both economically and politically.
